Death is not extinguishing the light; it is only putting out the lamp because the dawn has come.

Do You Need Help Now?

We are never fully prepared for death of someone we love. We will always be impacted if not overwhelmed regardless of whether death is sudden or expected as part of the palliative care/hospice environment.

Immediate help for those who need to report a death that has just occurred:

  • Death at home will need to be reported to the police immediately unless the deceased is under palliative/hospice care. Note that if under palliative/hospice care you should follow their procedures which should include notifying the doctor and authorities.
  • If death has occurred at a hospital or seniors’ retirement home/facility, then they should have notified you as well as the appropriate authorities.
  • You will need to contact a funeral home in your area. If the death occurred at a retirement facility or hospital, then you will have some time to decide on a funeral home if one has not been previously determined.

Most funeral homes have 24hr/7day coverage.

In contacting the funeral home, you will need to have:

  • Your name,
  • Your phone number
  • Your relationship to the deceased
  • Full name of the deceased
  • Current location of the deceased
  • Regular address of the deceased
  • Name of Next of Kin of the deceased
  • Phone number of the Next of Kin
  • Address of the Next of Kin
  • Name of the doctor who will be signing the death certificate

If we at Life Journey Funeral Planning can be of assistance after the death has been reported then please contact us. Unfortunately, we do not have 24/7 coverage at this point in time.
